Swiss Judo Open 2017

The Swiss Judo Open 2017 took place from the 11th to 12th March. More than 220 competitors from 28 nations and four continents came to Uster to take part in this years tournament. The Italian team was extraordinarily strong and so it was the national anthem of Italy that was played 8 times this weekend. Moreover, the crowd celebrated a Swiss victory on both days.

On the first day the 18 year old Gioia Vetterli from the host city of Uster was showing off her ne-waza skills to win the category women -63 kg. While this title was unexpected, the second one was clear prior to the final, as Ciril Grossklaus and Tobias Meier both won their semi-final. In the end it was Grossklaus who could launch the decisive attack so that Tobias Meier was left with the silver medal as in the previous year.

In the other categories Egypt, Germany, the Netherlands and Poland could each claim a single gold medal. As a result Switzerland is ranked 2nd in the medal ranking with a total of 9 medals. Detailed results are available on ippon.org, on judobase.org or in the results section.

We thank all sponsors, volunteers, coaches, competitors, referees, officials as well as the Swiss Judo and Ju-Jitsu Federation and the European Judo Union for their respective contributions that allowed for the execution of this years tournament. See you again next year (date to be anounced).
