Tournament 2022

The European Cup 2022 will take place on 16th & 17th July in the AXA Arena in Winterthur.
Due to new marketing rules we are no longer allowed to promote this even under the name Swiss Judo Open. We are thus creating a new website, which you can find at ecjudo.ch. There you will find all the information as soon as it becomes available.

Dear Judo Friends,

with great regret we have to inform you, that the Swiss Judo Open – Senior European Judo Cup will not take place on 7th & 8th March 2020.

On 28th February the federal execution of Switzerland declared a special situation according to the law of epidemies (with regard to the evolution of the corona virus) and prohibited any events where more than 1000 people would be present at the same time within Switzerland. Following that announcement we have evaluated the different possibilities to carry out the tournament in a smaller fashion. We however arrived at the conclusion that the development until next weekend is currently not predictable. Both the reactions of foreign delegations and people within Switzerland show that there is great insecurity within the general public. To protect the health of all athletes, volunteers and other people involved has the highest priority for the organisers.

Given the large number of representatives from Italy and other persons with increase infection risk due to their travel behaviour and considering the close contact during the weigh-in, warm up and especially during the competition, even a tournament without any spectators would pose an increased risk. Furthermore, we have received numerous questions and even first cancellations within the last 48 hours. For these reasons the organisation committee has decided in cooperation with local authorities, the Swiss Judo & Ju-Jitsu Federation and the European Judo Union to cancel the Swiss Judo Open 2020.

All delegations which have already paid their entrance and hotel are asked to contact the booking team regarding the refund. They should mention their booking number and bank details at This email address is being protected from spambots. Everyone who has bought a ticket will be contacted shortly by our ticketing partner – Ticketpark Ltd. – with further information.

We apologise for the inconvenience and hope the general situation will calm itself soon. To compensate the financial losses due to the cancellation and to be able to carry out the event in the future, we will shortly start a crowdfunding campaign and hope for your support.
